Home | Archaeology | Ritual of Purification and Flower Baths in El Brujo

Within the complex cultural universe of the Mochica society, magic and religion had a special meaning. Studies have demonstrated that high ranking characters, like the Señora de Cao, for instance, exerted power over natural and supernatural forces. The very Archaeological Site of El Brujo was named after the shamanic practises which took place there over the years, and which origins date back hundreds of years. In an attempt to rescue these ancient traditions, the Wiese Foundation has announced the beginning of rituals of purification and flower baths in El Brujo, which will be held in a ceremonial pit with a 10-meter deep water spring dating back to Mochica times.

The purpose of this ritual is to allow visitors to contact the magical, religious realm in a series of experiences where they can meet themselves again, facing, beating and Ealing their own existential, mental and spiritual weaknesses. As archaeologist Régulo Franco —who also conducts these sessions— explains, it’s about an “entry and rebirth into Mother Earth’s or Pachamama’s womb”.

This way, the Wiese Foundation offers visitors to the site of El Brujo a unique experience which will allow them to establish a spiritual dialog with supernatural powers.
