Supporting culture is a direct consequence of the commitment of the Wiese Foundation towards the well-being of society, a commitment to know its history and the way it is expressed. Thus, art is definitely one of the forms of expression where the character of a community becomes evident. This was precisely the subject which gave meaning to the exhibit “Art and the City: Imaginaries in a Transforming Lima 1980–2005”: to trace a panorama of contemporary art in Lima over the past 25 years, in three main branches of artistic activities: visual arts, architecture and music. The result was an unprecedented work that summoned some of the most notorious artists in the country.

This historic exhibit was possible thanks to the sponsorship of the law firm Muñiz, Ramírez, Pérez-Taiman y Luna-Victoria —which celebrated their 25th anniversary this way—, the National Institute of Culture and the Museo de la Nación, where the exhibit was held from September 1 to October 31, 2006. Art and the City was the result of the hard work of a team of specialists consisting of art curators Jorge Villacorta, Augusto del Valle, Sharon Lerner and Miguel López, architect Pablo Dam Mazzi and music critic Luis Alvarado. Within a 2 thousand square meter space, visitors of the exhibit were able to see the works of over 100 artists and art collectives —a job that demanded lots of efforts, because many of the pieces were not in Lima or had to be done exclusively for the exhibit. A series of concerts was also arranged for the exhibit, these were included in the three CDs of the book Post-Ilusiones [Post-Illusions], published towards the end of that same year.
