The Wiese Foundation was created by Don Augusto N. Wiese Eslava in August, 1960 as a token of gratitude for his success in the banking and commercial sector. And he made it with a main purpose: to promote health and education in Peru, two fundamental pillars for the development of the country.
The task of the Wiese Foundation becomes a reality through a series of projects which aim at the well-being of the community, both socially and educationally. Such is the case of the Wiese Solidarity Center and of the Education Quality project in Alto Larán and Chincha Baja, focusing on the people in most need. On the other hand, the Foundation is also devoted to studying and enhancing archaeological sites revealing fundamental aspects of Peruvian history, thus contributing to the shaping of our identity. The successful Archaeological Program of El Brujo, for instance, has allowed for the recovery of a very important Mochica ceremonial center after a tireless and exhaustive research and conservation task; whereas the modern Cao Museum , which holds the remains of the Señora de Cao, the most important archaeological discovery in recent years.
In order to have the neighboring communities to the site benefit from the enhancement of the monument, the Wiese Foundation, in collaboration with public and private institutions, is actively engaged in the Moche Route, , a tour circuit addressed to promoting the cultural attractions of northern Peru. Supporting art is also a way of promoting education, as it was demonstrated with the huge success of the Urbe & Arte exhibit and the Night in White. In all these cases, the Foundation has shown the great impact the collaboration between the public and private spheres can have..
Nowadays, the Wiese Foundation is chaired by Mr. Augusto Felipe Wiese de Osma, who tirelessly carries on the task of its founder.
